Background

Founded in 2016 to respond to growing interest in LEAD replication across the United States, the LEAD Support Bureau is the nation’s only resource to provide training, technical assistance, and strategic guidance to communities developing, implementing, or interested in understanding LEAD initiatives.

The Bureau is staffed by a team of expert practitioners who have first-hand experience of developing and implementing LEAD initiatives across the country. We also draw on the expertise of prosecutors, police, case managers, public safety leaders, and civil rights leaders who are now using LEAD on the ground and are available to share lessons learned with their peers across the nation.

The Bureau provides intensive and ongoing technical assistance and support through site-specific contracts; some technical assistance may also be available on a limited pro bono basis.

THE LEAD Model

What is It?

LEAD is not an organization—Instead, it’s a replicable model that helps communities increase health, equity, and safety by collectively developing new approaches to the problems associated with unmanaged behavioral illness or chronic poverty.

How To Implement LEAD?

In every site, LEAD begins with a group of stakeholders committed to finding a better way. To support their efforts, the Bureau provides an evolving array of resources and assistance, including site visits, topic-specific presentations and trainings, and reference documents.
